Technicians who trained overseas can become MOT testers in the UK, and the Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment was designed with technicians like them in mind. Rather than trying to match an overseas certificate against DVSA’s list of accepted qualifications, the VTAA gives them a recognised, UK-accredited way to prove their current competence, equivalent to Level 3.
The usual DVSA eligibility rules still apply. They’ll need at least four years’ full-time experience servicing and repairing the types of vehicles they’ll test, a current and full UK driving licence for those vehicle classes, no unspent convictions, and to be considered ‘of good repute’. If you’re not sure whether someone’s work history will count, get in touch before booking and we’ll happily talk it through with you.
