It takes less time to turn an experienced technician into an MOT tester than many managers expect. The Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment itself takes just one day. After that, your technician will take the MOT tester qualification course, which for class 4 and 7 vehicles lasts at least 29 hours, including at least 8 hours of practical training. Once they’ve passed, they’ll book their DVSA demonstration test.

The overall timescale really depends on course dates and how quickly the demonstration test can be booked, so it’s worth planning ahead. Book the VTAA and the tester course close together if you can, and keep your technician’s momentum going. We’re always happy to help you map out a realistic timeline for your team.
